Afghanistan and Uzbekistan sign $520 million in new trade deals
An analytical article published by Afghanistan’s leading news outlet, TOLOnews, highlights a new phase in economic relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
According to the report, trade agreements worth $520 million were signed during a business conference organized by the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment. Chamber head Said Karim Hashimi noted that cooperation between the two countries’ economic institutions has expanded to an unprecedented level over the past six months.
The article states that frequent visits by Uzbek trade delegations to Afghanistan have boosted direct engagement between business communities. As a result, agreements worth more than $1.4 billion have been reached across key sectors, including agriculture, food production, mining, transport, logistics, construction, and energy. TOLOnews reports that more than 100 deals valued at $1.415 billion were signed between private sector representatives in the past two months alone.
Speaking at the forum, Andijan regional governor Shukhrat Abdurakhmanov said local businesses are ready to invest in Afghanistan and establish joint ventures in cement production, electrical cables, pharmaceuticals, and footwear manufacturing. Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nuruddin Azizi, described the Afghan market as highly favorable for Uzbek products.
The publication concludes that Afghanistan is seeking to develop alternative trade and transit routes through closer cooperation with Uzbekistan, aiming to reduce its reliance on existing foreign trade channels. Such sustained economic engagement is expected to strengthen regional stability and mutually beneficial neighborly ties.
